Nutrition science got it wrong.

Here’s how you can get it right.

Today 1 in 2 Americans -- HALF the population -- has either Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes and many of them don’t even know it. There is a solution: it starts with knowledge. FAT FICTION is a film that will show you how sugar and processed carbohydrates play a far greater role than fat in obesity… and what you can do to reclaim your health.

Director and Writer, Jennifer Isenhart:

I grew up in the “low fat” era. Like everyone else, I had it drilled into my mind that “eating fat makes you fat” and that saturated fat will kill you. As a news reporter and special projects producer for a network news station, I interviewed many mainstream nutritionists who warned of the grave dangers of eating saturated animal fats like meat, butter and lard. I interviewed Type 2 Diabetics who struggled with their disease while our own government preached they consume 6-11 servings of grain a day and the food industry showered them with so-called “healthy” low fat foods that were really just carbs loaded with sugar. When those same patients struggled to take control of their health, they were told their disease was their fault, that they were eating too much and not exercising enough.

So when I learned how little scientific evidence exists to support our nation’s own Dietary Guidelines, it first surprised me and then angered me. The more I researched, the more I understood how one man's ego had kicked off a vast, uncontrolled experiment on the entire nation.  Fast forward 50 years and we face a staggering public health crisis, worse than big tobacco. As a filmmaker, I realized this topic had to be shared with the public.
